EMT-Paramedic Job Description
Summary:
Provides basic to advanced emergency and
non-emergency paramedical care to the ill and injured.
Guides and directs EMT-I and/or EMT-B techs in the application
of appropriate EMS techniques, as required. Performs direct
illness/injury assessment and management, preparation
for transport, transfer of required information, and patient
care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Attends emergency and non-emergency medical
requests as they arise, renders on-site assistance to
patients as required.
2. Performs initial assessment and management of illness
or injury to emergency patients in accordance with specified
protocol and procedures.
3. Prepares or assists in the preparations of patients
for transport, ensuring compliance with protocol and procedure.
4. Provides direct paramedical and comprehensive patient
care as required in each individual case.
5. Leads, guides, and/or assists in training of lower
techs and/or students, as specifically assigned.
6. Inspects emergency medical equipment to ensure serviceability
and compliance with safety and infection control regulations
and standards.
7. Performs daily duties and miscellaneous job-related
duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Georgia Licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Paramedic.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
1. Skills and experience incumbent to function
with proficiency at the ALS level of service.
2. Records maintenance skills.
3. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection
control standards.
4. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency
situations.
Conditions of Employment:
1. Successful candidate must submit to post
offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history
check.
2. May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella
screening.
3. Must be emotionally stable, have good dexterity, agility,
and physical coordination.
Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:
1. Work involves considerable exposure elements,
such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke,
unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
2. Extensive physical activity, heaving lifting, pushing
or pulling required of objects over 100lbs.
3. Potential exposure to dangerous material and situations.
4. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will
require OSHA training.
Training Required After Hiring:
To maintain certification, paramedics must
re-register, usually every 2 years. Re-registration requires
various hours of continuing education and/or certifications.
