Qualifications

Summary:
The EMT-R or EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) will function as a support person to EMT and Paramedic personnel in daily functions. Definition:
- Provides stand by emergency medical care and transportation at special event venues.
- Responds to emergency scenes to provide emergency medical care and transportation.
- Responds to hospitals, nursing homes and other locations to provide non-emergency medical care and transportation.
- Provides medical care and monitoring at the scene, en-route to the hospital and during transportation to, from and/or between facilities.

Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility.

The EMT provides patient care in both the emergency and non-emergency environment. Ensures compliance with all State of Georgia EMS rules and regulations. Checks and maintains all ambulance equipment and vehicle to ensure it is clean and in proper working condition. Maintains all company required licenses and certifications for an EMT position. Must hold a State of Georgia Drivers License. Must attend in-house mandatory training in addition to all EMT required courses. Follow all company policies and procedures including company medical director approved protocols and standing orders. Employees hired into this position are subject to a six month introductory probationary period.

- Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information at all times in accordance HIPPA and all other local, state and federal regulations.
- Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when dealing with patient contacts. Is familiar with and practices the Infection Control policies and procedures of company.
- When necessary and appropriate, acts as a team leader in dealing with emergency and non-emergency situations, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
- Performs duties related to public relations and community education programs sponsored by company.
- Accepts responsibility for re-certification as an EMT and for other required license’s and certifications as required by company, local, regional, and state policies, regulations or laws.
- Reports to assigned shifts on time, properly groomed in uniform and on time unless the proper notification has been made. Remains on-duty and in proper uniform until properly relieved.
- At all times sets an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow. Places patient care excellence and safety above all else.
- Performs other duties as directed by management.
- Respond to all calls for service dispatched from the communications center or event dispatch, and all requests for service by event staff or attendees as appropriate.
- Provide care and treatment to patients according to company policy and the company medical director protocols.
- Ensures vehicle and all equipment is cleaned and checked at the beginning and end of shift. Any deficiencies should be reported immediately to the event supervisor or Operations Manager.
- Prepares and completes appropriate reports including Patient Care Reports (PCR), Patient Logs, billing, exposure reports, incident reports, and unit check offs.
- Ensures unit and crew members adhere to Central EMS policies, procedures, guidelines, directives and standards. Reports any deficiencies to the event supervisor or Operations Manager promptly.
- Prompt and regular attendance at scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings.
- Prompt completion of required trainings within stated deadlines.
- Maintain a state of readiness and professionalism while on-duty.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform either on or off duty.
- Self-motivated and requires little supervision and direction.
- Performs other such duties as may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Paramedic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of an accredited Paramedic Training Program
- Experience in the field of Emergency Medical Services with ALS or BLS experience preferred
- BCLS, ACLS (Only required If employee is a Paramedic), Equivalent in Pediatric (EPC, PALS, PEEP) (within 60 day of employment) and Trauma (ITLS, ATT, PHTLS) (within 60 day of employment)
- Current Georgia Paramedic License
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
- Knowledge of company medical director approved protocols and standing orders.
- Ability to read and interpret maps of event locations, stadiums, and local areas.
- Demonstrated skills in the successful completion of multiple, simultaneous and rapidly emergent tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports, and correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, Central EMS operations and other customer service issues.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems including PCR reporting, email and MDT applications.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service to patients, community members, and other affiliated healthcare and non-healthcare team members.
- Demonstrated ability to represent Central EMS and other team members as an EMS professional.
- Provide high quality care to patients in the transport environment under the direction of the Program Medical Director and the referring and/or receiving Physician in accordance with Critical Care policies, protocols and standards of care.
- Autonomously evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (pediatric through adult), provide therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport (via ground or helicopter) from hospitals or accident scenes.
- Collaborate with other members of the team, including their Critical Care Nurse partner, drivers, coworkers, leadership, other healthcare partners and customers.
- Plan, organize and position equipment and supplies for use in emergency conditions before, during and after transport.
- Maintain complete and accurate records, participate in quality assurance programs, perform data collection and participate in any special projects.
- Maintain clinical proficiency across all aspects of the Critical Care Division's scope of practice including care of patients with neurological emergencies, cardiac emergencies, pediatric emergencies, obstetrical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, and any other patient populations transported by the Critical Care Division.
- Perform all physical requirements of job in confined spaces and under adverse environmental conditions.
- Complete transports initiated with in the timeframe of the scheduled on-call shift, understanding that completion of these transports might require extend beyond normal work hours.
- Participation in all required didactic, clinical and lab education programs and maintenance of all required certifications and licenses.
- Maintain clinical competency in all critical care procedures and equipment, including but not limited to ventilators, IV pumps, dopplers, chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, ventricular assist devices, Impella cardiac assist devices, transcutaneous/transvenous pacers, external ventricular drains, and advanced airway management.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with all external and internal customers, including patients and their families, and hospital staff.
- Minimum 2 years of ALS experience
- Current state of Georgia EMT-P License.
- Current certification in AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP
- Current trauma certification in ITLS or PHTLS
- Certification in either FP-C or CCP-C (REQUIRED)
- Associates Degree (Preferred)
- Critical Care Transport experience (Preferred)
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing including a complete criminal background check and drug screening.
- Must be able to work in confined space in a stressful environment while providing patient care required.
- Must be able to occasionally work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Must be able to accommodate body positions and movements such as sitting, standing, twisting, crouching, bending, walking, climbing in and out of ambulance, climbing stairs, turning head and torso, bending at the arms, knees, wrists and fingers.
- Must maintain good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition which would not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing a combined weight of moving device, patient and equipment in excess of 275 pounds (shared weight).
- Must be able to carry a combined weight of moving device, patient and equipment in excess of 275 pounds (shared weight) up and down a minimum of six (6) stairs via stair chair and in and out of the ambulance.
- Must occasionally lift a combined weight of moving device, patient and equipment up to 137.5 pounds (6"-38" ht.).
- Must perform bed to cot transfers with one hundred (100) pounds push/pull force (42" ht.)
- Must have full use of eyes, ears and full power of speech.
- Must be able to handle stresses related to patient care in transport, without compromising personal or overall transport safety. All staff members are encouraged to make lifestyle choices that promote healthy living as it relates to job performance.
